Welcome back hockey: Feb. 19-20 weekend

Happy hockey everyone. Now that we're back on the ice, a reminder to teams to send in your game recaps moving forward as we were doing in the first part of the season before the stoppage in play.  It's the home team that sends in the recaps.

The first weekend of a return to hockey didn't got off without a hitch, unfortunately, due to the weather which saw Friday night games called off. But teams still did get to meet up on the ice over the weekend for the first time since December when games were last played. Many exhibition games took place over the weekend.

A reminder game recaps are posted when they have been submitted by the home team, and also based on the availability of the webmaster.

GAME RECAPS:

SATURDAY, FEB. 19

Park View 5 – West Kings 2

Saturday, Feb. 19 saw a return to game action as the Park View Panthers faced off against the West Kings Wolverines at the LCLC in Bridgewater.

The Wolverines struck first on the power play as Ryan Rector picked up a pass from Hunter Lalonde, sliding the puck under the pad of Charlie Whitty. The Panthers pressed for the equalizer, however strong goaltending kept them off the board until late in the first when Ethan Corkum knocked in a pass from Mitch MacIntosh.

The pace intensified as the game went on with both team trading chances. The panthers took the lead seven minutes into the second on a goal by Mitch MacIntosh, assist going to Ethan Corkum. The play continued to go back and forth in the second with both goaltenders making timely saves until Fischer Genge on a pass from Jack Barry increased the Panther lead to two. Late Panther penalties, however, gave the Wolverines some life as they brought it to within one on a goal by Kealan Buckley.

The Panthers picked up third period goals off the sticks of Nathan Lambourne and Dylan Demone with assists going to Sam Tanner, Fischer Genge and Goaltender Charlie Whitty to walk way away with the 5-2 victory. Overall it was a very entertaining game!

The Sharks wanted the last word in the first and Surette notched his second of the game with 31 seconds left.
