Par-en-Bas 4 – Yarmouth 3

On Sunday, Feb. 27, the YCMHS Vikings and PEB Sharks squared off for the battle of the Fish Tank. Games between Yarmouth and PEB have been close all season and this game was no exception.

After a scoreless first period, Blake Newell scored early in the second to give the Sharks the lead. Yarmouth took the only penalty of the game in the second and Alyre Richardson scored on the man advantage to put PEB ahead 2-0. Yarmouth, never giving up, scored 20 seconds after Richardson’s goal to make it 2-1 on a goal by Gannon Dufy.

The third period saw each team score a pair of goals. As soon as PEB would score Yarmouth would answer back with one of their own.  With Par-en-Bas leading 4-2, Yarmouth’s last goal was scored with 11.9 seconds left in the game, but the Vikings could not seal the deal, even with pulling their goaltender.

The Sharks took the 4-3 win.

A great game with only one minor penalty in the 60 minutes.

Central Kings 6 – Forest Heights 1

Central Kings opened the scoring at 17:50 in the first period on the power play with Aiden Meister winning the draw. Luke Mattinson saved Cody Hebb’s initial shot, with Hebb following up on the rebound to bury the puck short side to make the score 1-0 CK.  Dylan Rafuse had some great speed through the neutral zone and a great scoring chance, with a save by Locke Albrecht. Next, the rebound was chipped out of the zone by Cody Hebb with Sam Rogers picking up the loose puck, finishing on a breakaway, putting CK up 2-0.

After some strong work on the side wall from Nathan Langille, Ryan Turner slipped a pass to Aiden Meister in the slot who scored to make it 3-0 CK.  Later in the first period, Rafuse and Perry of F.H., with several excellent scoring chances, were just not able to solve Locke Albrecht. Several minutes later, Dylan Rafuse then picked up a loose puck, rushed in on a breakaway and finished top shelf on CK to make the score 3-1 at 4:14 in the first period.

CK had a fortunate bounce to start the second period – Ryan Turner’s shot (from Rogers and Schurman) with a rebound off the FH player into the back of the net gave CK the 4-1 lead.  Cody Hebb scored again at 9:38 in the second period with a low shot from just outside the blue paint.  Scoring was rounded out by Sam Rogers at 6:09 of the third period.

Several stand out players for Forest Heights included Dylan Rafuse, Mackenzie Connors, Cohen Perry, and of course Luke Mattinson with an excellent performance in goal.  Strong performances from CK included Sam Rogers, Cody Hebb, and Aiden Meister.
