PARK VIEW 5 – HORTON 4
Hockey fans in Bridgewater were treated to a great game on Friday night, Nov. 4, as two D1 rivals collided at the LCLC for the first time this season. This was the first regular season game between the Park View Panthers and the Horton Griffins in Bridgewater since 2020, and it certainly didn’t disappoint!
The Griffins came out of the gate strong, picking up two quick unassisted goals of the sticks of Laughlin Levy and Jesse Bidgood, which silenced the home crowd which was hoping for a much better start from their Panthers.
Strong goaltending at both ends by Charlie Whitty and Oliver Bezanson kept the scoring at bay until the late stages of the frame when Panther Brennan Coleman scored his first of the game with assists going to his line mates Cohen Westlake and Mitch MacIntosh with 17 seconds remaining cutting the lead in half.
The late goal ignited the Panthers, who stormed out of the gate in the second picking up three goals off the sticks of Cohen Westlake on the PP, assisted by Brennan Coleman and Joey Ritcey. Mitch MacIntosh picked up the second Panther goal of the frame, assisted by Brennan Coleman and Cohen Westlake. Carlos White rounded out the scoring with the assists going to Landed Morash and Ty Feener.
The Panthers picked up 8 minutes in penalties that the Griffins could not capitalize on sending PVEC to the dressing room up 4-2 after two periods, setting the stage for a big third and exciting finish.
Both goaltenders played another strong period as both teams had numerous chances that they could not capitalize on. The start to the third went back and forth until the Panthers took a penalty, which the Griffins capitalized on off the stick of Cayden Anderson, assisted by Garrett Gaulton and Laughlin Levy. This seemed to light a fire in Anderson who scored his second of the period at the 8:49 mark of the frame with the assists going to Garrett Gaulton and Brett King. Tied at 4-4 with 8 minutes to play put the home crowd on the edge of their seats, setting the stage for an exciting finish. The play went back and forth with teams trading chances until Park View’s Brennan Coleman scored his second of the night and game winner on the power
play assisted by Cohen Westlake and Mitchell MacIntosh with 1:34 to play.
The Griffins, with their net empty, pushed hard at the end but were unable to score, giving the Panthers the 5-4 win.
FOREST HEIGHTS 6 – PAR-EN-BAS 0
On Saturday, Nov. 5, the Par-en-Bas Sharks hosted the Forest Heights Falcons. PEB riding on a 3-game winning streak, was looking to push ahead in the standings. Forest Heights, however, would not allow any such thing to happen as they were looking to build a win streak of their own.
The Falcons drew first blood on a powerplay goal by Carter Stevens. Dylan Rafuse scored shorthanded, and Hector Urtilla notched a goal to make it 3-0 Falcon’s heading into the second period.
PEB couldn’t stay out of the box the entire game and the Falcon’s took over with the momentum built off of powerplay time. Rafuse and Urtilla scored again in the 2nd to make it 5-0 Falcons. With 3 minutes left in the 2nd, Cohen Perry scored to make it 6-0 Falcons.
PEB made a goalie change in the 3rd. Zander White for PEB got a shutout in the straight time period for PEB, while Luke Mattinson got the shutout for Forest Heights.
Final score Forest Heights 6 – Par-en-Bas 0.
CENTRAL KINGS 3 – HORTON 2
The Central Kings Gators visited the Kentville arena to take on the home team Horton Griffins. This was the first meeting for these two valley teams and was anticipated to be a great matchup.
The game got off to a great start with lots of back and forth in each end of the ice. The Griffins scored early with a goal from the captain CJ Zinck at 11:49 of the first period. The Gators tied it up shortly after by Kaleb Boates that carried into the 2nd period.
Early in the 2nd period the Griffins then gained the lead again with a goal from Lauchlin Levy, but then the CK team managed to tie things up midway through the period with a goal from Nathan Langille. The Horton bench then took a bench minor penalty putting the Gators back on the power play where they netted another goal from Brody Nauss giving them the lead.
The game continued to play out with lots of effort by both teams, and try as they might neither team was able to put another goal in the net in the 3rd period.
The CK Gators came away with a well fought win with a 3-2 victory.
