Avon View wins 17th Annual 2026 Danny Dorrington Hockey Tournament

Avon View captured the Danny Dorrington Memorial championship on Sunday afternoon with a 6-1 victory over host Northumberland at the Westville Miner’s Sports Centre. Northumberland opened the scoring at 10:09 of the first period when Noah Fitt scored short handed, assisted by Ethan Daley, but Avon View responded as Derek Leopold tied the game, assisted by Kaleb Corkum and Sullivan McKenzie. The Avalanche took control in the second period with goals from Aidan Fry, Rylan Carrigan and Kellan Miller, with Miller’s tally standing as the game winning goal. In the third, Miller added his second of the game on the power play and Sullivan McKenzie rounded out the scoring. Grady LeCouter earned the win in goal for Avon View, stopping 19 of 20 shots, while Brayden Gaudet and Nate Edamura shared duties for Northumberland.

Earlier in the day, Northumberland advanced to the final with an 8-6 semifinal win over Riverview. Gavin MacDonald scored twice in the opening period, Dawson MacAulay finished with two goals and three assists and Jacob Campbell added a goal and three helpers to help the Nighthawks edge a back and forth contest. Riverview received multi goal efforts from Tim Bedford and Nolan Lewis but could not overcome Northumberland’s special teams success.

Avon View booked its spot in the championship by defeating the Northeast Kings Titans 5-4 in the other semifinal. Clark Dykens scored twice, including the game winning goal in the third period, while Drake Ledson, Kyle Phillips and Kaleb Corkum also found the back of the net. The Titans were led offensively by Lynden Coleman with two goals and Parker Walsh with a goal and an assist, but Avon View held on late to secure the win and set the stage for a championship performance later in the day.
