FOREST HEIGHTS 7 – NKEC 5

On Friday evening in Canning, the Titan team played a very impressive Forest Heights team. The Falcons came with a winning recipe that included a strong work ethic, excellent goaltending and clutch scoring. 

The Titan team, which has had a tough start to the season, are slowly seeing glimpses of growth and were hoping to challenge the visiting squad. The Titans were aware that the Falcons have a lethal weapon in one of the league's best players and knew that in order for them to succeed they would have to shut him down. With this said, # 2 Dylan Rafuse on the Falcons had different plans and had potted two goals in the first 15 minutes of the game handing the visiting side a 2-0 lead after the first period. 

The Titans were able to play much of the game in the Falcons zone, but # 31 Luke Mattinson was not going to make things easy as he stopped nearly 45 shots throughout the game. 

In the second period the Titans played with confidence and were able to score 2 goals by Nolan King and Jonny Petrie and felt like they were in control of the game, but with one minute left in the period Madden Myra of Forest Heights scored the team’s third goal of the game to take a 3-2 lead heading into the last frame.

The Titans’ Evan Durling was able to score early in the third to tie the game, but this was short lived as 15 seconds later Cohen Perry gave the Falcons a one goal lead again. 

The Titans continued to pepper the Falcon goalie with shots and were finally able to score their 4th goal by #8 Will Harris to tie the game again with 10 minutes left in the third period.  All signs pointed towards a Titan win, but you can never count out the heart and soul of a clutch player and with 6 minutes left in the game Dylan Rafuse decided to take control of the game and he capitalized when the Titans began to make some poor decisions.  Rafuse scored 3 more goals in 5 minutes to give the visiting side its 6th win of the season and left the Titans wondering what could have been.   

The final score was 7-5 with Nik Kaizer scoring the Titans last goal. 

Congrats should go out to the Falcons who fought hard and special mention should go out to Luke Mattinson who was stellar between the pipes and Dylan Rafuse for his amazing play in both ends of the ice.

CENTRAL KINGS 6 – FOREST HEIGHTS 4

Central Kings Gators and Forest Heights Falcons took part in our ‘Stockings were Hung’ event at their Dec. 10 game with many donations from teams, families, and local communities.  Kaleb Boates’ pregame speech outlined the goal of raising funds and contributions to work towards a goal of 1,500 stockings this holiday season. Thanks to all that participated.

The game's first goal came at 12:50 of the first period on the power play starting with a nice chip off the wall by Dylan Rafuse to Cohen Perry who scored low blocker to put the Falcons up by one.  CK evened the score at 8:12 with Cody Hebb slipping a pass to Aidan Meister in the slot (Meister from Hebb, Churchill).

In the second period, the Falcons went up by one with a strong effort from Rafuse against three CK defenders (15: 59 Rafuse, unassisted).  CK evened the score again at 12:30 with a beautiful pass from Hebb in the slot to Meister for a tap-in (Meister, from Hebb).  CK got on the board again with a rush along the left wing and wrap around by Kaleb Boates with Ryan Turner tapping into an open net (10:38 Turner, from Boates, Nauss).  CK scored again at 0:16 with Chase Balsor’s shot off a FH defender and slipped into the back of the net (Balsor, from Wood, White).  End of two SOG: CK 25 shots, FH 14.

FH got the scoring underway in the third with a nice tip in the slot by Nicholas Young (from Rafuse, Kaizer), 4-3 CK.  CK responded at 13:24 with Connor White tipping in a rebound on a shot from Wood (White, unassisted).  FH pulled their goalie with just over a minute to play and Nathan Langille scored for CK (Langille, from Hebb).  FH responded at 0:18 with a strong individual effort by Pons (from Stevens).

HORTON 6 – PEB 5

On Sunday, Dec. 11, the Horton Griffin’s traveled to the Mariners Centre to play the École Secondaire de Par-en-Bas Sharks. The Mariners Centre had hosted the Senior Canadian Curling Championships and Arena 1 was not ready in time, so the game was played on Arena 2.

The Sharks skated a young team with eight roster regulars out on the Atlantic catching the elusive lobster.

The game was filled with firsts. The Sharks started the game with captain Carson d’Eon centering a line with his two twin brothers on each side. The young Sharks team took a while to find their rhythm and the Griffins capitalized with a goal from Aiden Fahie. The Sharks found their legs late in the first and Blake Newell scored with three minutes left in the 1st. A minute later Makai Mahaney scored to put the Griffin’s ahead.

Branson Keddy for the Griffin’s scored his first high school goal to put the Griffins up 3-1. The Sharks answered with a first of their own. Maxime d’Entremont notched his first high school goal with a wrist shot from the slot. Dylan d’Entremont and Alyre Richardson would score for the Sharks to put them up 4-3 going into the 3rd.

Alyre Richardson scored halfway through the 3rd period to put the Sharks up 5-3. The Griffin’s relentless attack saw them score with 9:48 and then a powerplay goal from CJ Zink with 4 minutes left. Building off their momentum, the Griffin’s regained the lead with 55 seconds left in the game. Final score 6-5 Griffin’s over the Sharks. A great game with only 7 minor penalties between the teams.
